PART 5: THE PROMISE BENEATH THE WILLOW — FINAL PART
I played Martin’s last sentence once more.
“By Friday, it won’t matter.”
Then I stopped trying to guess what he meant and sent the entire recording to the people who could stop him.
Inspector Moreau.
Detective Mercer.
The detective helping us back home had given me a number for urgent developments. I called it with my hand pressed over my free ear, trying not to wake Frank.
“There’s a recording,” I said when someone answered. “They were in my house. They knew I was coming.”
The officer took the details and told me he would contact Mercer.
I remained in the corridor until my phone rang again.
“Do you still have access to the original footage?” Mercer asked.
“Yes.”
“Keep it. We’ll arrange to preserve it properly.”
“What happens Friday?”
“We’re working on that.”
“Please,” I said. “Don’t let them take our home.”
FINAL PART5: “My husband of forty years d:ie:d while visiting his daughter overseas. When I opened his urn to scatter his ashes, something slipped out and exposed a sh0cking secret.
